Radio DePaul is proud to present its very first Hip-Hop Showcase. The line-up includes hip-hop bands and individual emcees straight from the heart of Chicago and its university community. Join us in celebration of hip-hop, the Radio DePaul staff, our listeners and Chicago.
The night starts off with Michigan transplant and DePaul University emcee, DK. This 19-year old spitter will open up the night with old school flair and feel good rhymes. DK drops meaningful music that resonates with college students around Chicago.
Up next, Boogy & Phlyy B. This hip-hop duo’s contrasting flows and styles come together to create hazy trunk thumping rap tunes that will have you cranking the volume up. Throw your hood up and get your hands in the air when these Chicago natives take the stage.
Mally comes to the stage by way of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mally is the kind of emcee you don’t want to guest feature on your track. He will out shine you. His delivery and world play remind you why you fell in love with hip-hop. Mally has secured him self as a leader in the Minneapolis hip-hop scene. This time he will show the Chicago crowd what he is all about.
Chuck L.I. brings that extra snap and bite to his delivery. This Chicago MC’s lyrical versatility makes any beat sound good. Fortunately, Chuck’s good ear for production and the team behind him results in an arsenal of weapons when he hits the stage. Expect to see a lot of Chuck L.I. in 2011.
whysowhite brings together everything you love about music. These gentlemen create a musical melting pot of hip-hop, funk and soul. The result? The ultimate test for your best pair of dancing shoes. Stellar guitar licks, thick baselines, brilliant stories and sky high vocal ranges have you begging for more. The fellas also just won UIC’s Battle of The Bands. Get busy!
The night caps off with a headlining performance from Chicago hip-hop band Kids These Days. Picture a bluesy version of The Roots, except they are all about to graduate from high school. Fresh off the release of their Hard Times EP and a sold out release show, these Kids have brought a breath of fresh air that tests the boundaries of what we call hip-hop.
Radio DePaul is the student run radio station at DePaul University. The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System recognized Radio DePaul as “The Best College Radio Station in the Nation 2010”.
