Chris Hefner has spent the past three years working on his first feature-length film "The Pink Hotel" in Chicago, where he has lived since 2002. Its premiere in the famed Music Box Theatre, attended by an enthusiastic crowd of over 400, was preceded by glowing commentary from the Chicago arts community for the film and its director:
"the Guy Maddin of Chicago" - Roger Ebert
"set in a luxury hotel filled with strange tenants with stranger dreams, "The Pink Hotel"'s 1930s-that-never-was is steeped in dread and fear, slippery as smoke and elusive as cryptic, recurring dreams." - Ray Pride, Newcity Film
"a sort of surreal fun-house reflection of early MGM talkies... the jet-setting denizens of the pink hotel munch ortolan and engage in other acts of gross consumption, chase ominous noises down winding corridors, and plot acts of sabotage as the hotel mysteriously disintegrates around them." - Ed M. Koziarski, Chicago Reader
